The creation of the John S. Mosby Museum and Education Center has been a ten-year restoration effort based on preservation requirements, public use needs and the fundraising capabilities of the Mosby Museum Foundation and its Board of Directors. The project has been phased to achieve the goals necessary to enhance visitor access and appreciation of the history National Register property.

The Brentmoor historic tract contains extensive grounds, historic landscape features and three significant nineteenth century structures featuring a two-story, with basement, stucco Italianate Villa main house, a two-story brick kitchen and a brick smokehouse. The main residence will serve as an historic house with exhibit space integrated into the period furnishings. The detached kitchen will be restored to recreate a working 19th century kitchen, while the second floor will feature exhibit space. The smokehouse, gardens and other significant landscape features also will be restored.
